The key lies in how a remap changes the way your engine delivers power, particularly torque. A remapped diesel engine produces significantly more torque at lower RPM. This means you can maintain the same road speed at lower engine revs, using less fuel in the process.

Think about it this way: if your standard engine needs 2,500 RPM in 5th gear to comfortably cruise at 60mph, a remapped engine might only need 2,000 RPM for the same speed because there's more torque available. Lower RPM means less fuel being injected, which means better MPG.

The second factor is reduced gear changes. With more mid-range torque available, you don't need to downshift as often when overtaking, climbing hills, or accelerating in traffic. Every gear change at higher RPM wastes fuel, so fewer gear changes mean better economy.
