If you drive a diesel vehicle, chances are you've heard of the EGR valve — and probably not for good reasons. The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system is one of the biggest causes of reliability problems on modern diesel engines, and EGR delete is one of our most requested services at CB Autotuning in Cambridge.
The EGR system works by recirculating a portion of exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. The idea is to reduce NOx emissions by lowering combustion temperatures. In theory, it's a good concept. In practice, it causes enormous problems.
The hot, sooty exhaust gases passing through the EGR valve and back into the intake cause carbon build-up over time. This carbon accumulates in the intake manifold, on the intake valves, and in the EGR valve itself. Eventually, the EGR valve sticks open or closed, triggering fault codes, warning lights, and in many cases, putting the vehicle into limp mode.
An EGR delete solves this problem permanently by modifying the ECU software to disable the EGR system. The ECU no longer attempts to open the EGR valve, and all EGR-related fault codes are removed. The result is a cleaner intake system, improved throttle response, and one less component to worry about.
The benefits of an EGR delete go beyond just reliability. Many customers notice improved throttle response, slightly better fuel economy, and a smoother-running engine. When combined with a Stage 1 remap, the results are even more impressive — you get both the reliability benefits of an EGR delete and the performance gains of a remap.
At CB Autotuning, our EGR delete service starts from just £180, and we cover all diesel makes and models. We offer a fully mobile service across Cambridge and Cambridgeshire. The process takes approximately 1-2 hours and comes with our standard satisfaction guarantee.
